A blanket of arctic air is sending the thermometer to record lows in many parts of the country.

More than a dozen states have winter weather advisories stretching from Minnesota to Florida.

Authorities say exposure to the cold is being blamed in at least four deaths already.

Meteorologists say the bitter temperatures are expected to persist through the weekend for the Midwest and the eastern portion of the U.S.
