59News has confirmed the name of the victim in a crash that happened on U.S. Route 460 on Thursday, Jan. 24. Officials said the woman was Phyllis Marie Cumbee.
State Police also tell 59News that J.C. Reynolds, a Virginia State Trooper, was injured in the accident that happened in Giles County. He was taken to Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital.
Investigators said a truck pulled into the path of the trooper's cruiser near Pembroke just after 8 a.m. on Thursday. Cumbee was declared dead at the scene.
Trooper Reynolds has what Virginia State Police are calling "non-life threatening injuries."
