HINTON -
A nuisance bar is causing major problems in one Summers County town. What is being done about it?
In Hinton, just one block from city hall, a short walk from the middle school and public library, officials said one bar is causing a ton of problems in the city of Hinton.
"Anytime you have a parent with a young kid that you are afraid to allow them to walk to our library to the drug store to buy an ice cream cone, because of fear of what could happen, than we have a problem in our community," Joe Blankenship, Hinton Mayor said.
"It causes problems for us, there are constant fights, drug users out there, prostitution out there, its just a complete eye sore," D.S. Snavely, Hinton Police Chief said.
For 7 months the city of Hinton has been trying to shut down Danny's Pool Hall on 3rd Avenue. The mayor says the bar has secured a state liquor license but not a city license and he said this is illegal.
"Basically the state didn't honor what they said they were going to do. We didn't offer the city license but they still gave them a state license," Joe Blankenship, Hinton Mayor said.
Our crews tried to contact the owner of Danny's Pool Hall for their side of the story -- but our calls went unanswered and no answering machine picked up. When our crews were on scene, Friday, Danny's Pool Hall was closed. But folks in the community tell our crews it is over personal issues not the litigation that is going on. Our crews were unable to independently confirm this detail. But some within the area said they want to see the bar opened back up.
"Every bar is going to have a few problems, I don't think it is a nuisance," Juan Williams, Hinton said. But bar go-ers like Williams the future of Danny's Pool Hall is uncertain. City officials said they are moving forward with the process to close the bar down.
