FAYETTE COUNTY -

Today began early voting for an education levy in Fayette County.

The polls opened for the first time today. Officials say this levy vote takes place every five years and has always passed. The money goes to programs like special education, playground equipment and art classes.

There is a provision this time around that will keep taxes from increasing as much if a certain funding amount is raised. One voter explains to 59 News why she feels voting for education funding is so important.

"Obviously for the children, we would like to see our children get the textbooks and more educational materials that we needed so we felt that voting for the levy was important today," said voter Cindy Burdett.

Early voting will also take place Monday through Friday 8AM to 4PM through February 3rd. Election day is February 6th from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM.
