RALEIGH COUNTY -

Last week we saw single-digit temperatures. Tuesday we'll be in the 60s. Then snow is a possibility for Thursday.

What does this mean? Sickness and the possibility of more flu strains. 59 News wanted to know what your home remedies are.

"I've had my flu shot and it seems to be working fine. People I've been around have also had their flu shots so it seems to be protecting a bunch of people. I'm not really worried about the flu at this point," said Kevin Smith of Beaver.

But for others who may or may not have had their flu shot, whether getting sick from contact with other sick people or having a weak immune system, these next couple of days with fluctuating temperatures doesn't help.

"I believe that when you get the flu you're catching it from someone who already has it. I really don't think that weather plays a big role in that, I think that's something you either catch or you don't," Penelope Brandenburg of Layland said.

"A lot of sick people come to school and then they touch everything and then you get sick. I don't think I will because I play sports and I have a strong immune system but a lot of people will get sick I think," said Abigail Gwinn of Shady Spring.

Brandenburg gave 59 News insight into the preventative home remedies that have been passed down throughout her generations.

"My mom always told us when we were children that if you kept your ears covered, either cotton balls or a scarf or a hat on your ears.. That would help with sinus infections and you wouldn't be so likely to get sick," Brandenburg said.

She is looking forward to the warmer days of Spring, but not the allergies that come with it.

"I think when it warms up mold spores will be more present. When we have a lot of winds coming from the south, where we are not used to those mold spores and its carried up here in warmer weather. It'll be more prevalent, especially if you're prone to having allergies."

Flu shots are still available at most pharmacies.
