Baseball field named in honor of Va. Tech victim

CHESTER, Va. (AP) -

A victim of the 2007 shootings at Virginia Tech is being honored by his high school alma mater.

The baseball field at Thomas Dale High School in Chesterfield County will be named in honor of Matthew Gwaltney.

Gwaltney was a 2001 graduate of Thomas Dale. He played baseball and basketball, and was the sports editor for the student newspaper.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that the Chester County School Board voted unanimously last week to name the field after Gwaltney.

Gwaltney was 1 of 32 people who were killed by a gunman on April 16, 2007.
