Educators act to protect kids in face of bomb threat

Posted: Updated:

There were some scary moments for parents of students from Beckley Stratton Middle School on Thursday, Jan. 31.

Parents began calling 59News when a child apparently sent a text that read "Mommy I'm scared." The child was on a bus and sent to Woodrow Wilson High School.  59News spoke with police and the board of education to find out what was going on.  The confirmed that the students were taken from the school to nearby Woodrow Wilson High School.  They also confirmed that Director of Instruction, Miller Hall was on the scene, but no other information was being released.

At 10:56 a.m. an automated message was sent out by Beckley Stratton Principal, Rachel Pauley.  That message informed parents that the school had been evacuated because of a bomb threat.  The students were taken away by bus, while police searched the school with dogs.

59News learned that threat was caused by a note which was left in a bathroom.
