Winterstorm day 3 gives travelers a challenge

RALEIGH -

Snow continues to pummel Southern West Virginia and drivers are not having an easy time with it.

Travelers say Day 3 of this Winterstorm has been the worst. They shared with 59 News the roads that has given them the biggest challenges.

"Actually it's been kind of challenging. We've been slipping and sliding just a little bit. Just enough to let me know I need to slow down. It's not too bad. We left Snowshoe, West Virginia about 3 hours ago and the roads are actually better there then they are here," said Tony McWaters of Atlanta.

"There's a couple of back roads that are pretty bad. I haven't been back on the main roads but it was clear this morning," said Hope Plasse.

"On 64 until Lewisburg the roads were better but these roads here have gotten worse. Everyone's slowing down, taking it easy."

Drivers stopping for gas in Ghent gave 59 News their advice on how you can keep safe while out in the snow.

"I think they should slow down or completely get off the road. If they don't have the vehicle for the snow, like a 4 wheel drive for example. Then they should probably not consider driving on these roads in West Virginia," said Robin Rogers of Blacksburg, Virginia.

"Don't slam on your breaks. And have chains for your car. Other than that, just stay slow on the roads. Don't go fast or stay at home."

"Most of them are very cautious. We've seen maybe two people go off the roads. They're doing a good job keeping the roads clean."
