RALEIGH COUNTY -
Firefighter Nathan Shrewsbury of Rhodell has been released from the hospital Monday, Feb. 4 and is recovering after being rescued from a fire, according to Michael Holhouser, Chief of the Rhodell Volunteer Fire Department.
It's not very often that a firefighter is called out to a fire at the home of one of their own men.
A Raleigh County volunteer firefighters house caught fire on Saturday morning while he was sleeping. After Rhodell firemen responded to the call on Hazen Street in Helen, they realized it was one of their own men's houses. It was the home of volunteer firemen Nathan Shrewsbury.
Rhodell Firefighters said rescuing Shrewsbury from his own home tugged an emotional chord.
"It definitely is a strange feeling to hear that call. You're second guessing it. Are the dispatchers really telling you what you're hearing? It definitely puts a little more motivation in you when you fear the worst," said Rhodell Fire Chief Mike Holshouser.
Rhodell Firemen were joined by Sophia and Coal City volunteer fire departments.
