The Judicial Vacancy Advisory Commission will begin receiving applications immediately for the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Thomas Keadle.
Keadle, 75, was a judge in the 26th Judicial Circuit, which serves Lewis and Upshur counties. He retired on Jan. 31 after serving as a judge for nearly 28 years. Prior to being elected as a circuit judge, Keadle practiced law in Romney from 1974 to 1981 and also was an assistant prosecutor in Hampshire County.
In one of his last acts as a judge, Keadle swore in his brother-in-law, former Hampshire County Circuit judge Donald Cookman, as a state senator to fill the seat left empty when Walt Helmick became the state's agriculture commissioner.
According to a news release from Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin's Office, the deadline for applications is March 6, and the deadline for submittal of letters of recommendation is March 13. Applications and letters of recommendation will not be considered if received after the deadlines. Interviews will take place on March 27.
