BECKLEY -
Beckley Police get their man after a drive by shooting in Uptown.
Detectives said that Anthony Delaine Johnson drove by a home on Church Street in Beckley and opened fire with a gun. That happened at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7. There were three people in the house at the time.
Detectives had reason to believe that Johnson was the suspect and tracked him down at his father's house near Eisenhower Drive. When Det. David Allard showed up, Johnson ran off. That lead to a foot chase that ended with the Johnson in custody.
Beckley Police Department Chief of Detectives, Lt. Gant Montgomery, said that Johnson was a person of interest in two other recent crimes. One was a traffic stop where he had a gun. The other happened at what Lt. Montgomery called "a local apartment complex."
"Now it's occurring in broad daylight, it shows the it's getting to the point where he's out of control. So I'm very, very happy to make this arrest," said Montgomery. "It's good for the community to finally get Mr. Johnson off the streets."
Johnson is charged with three counts of Wanton Endangerment and two counts of being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun. He was already out of jail on probation for another crime. Lt. Montgomery is hoping to get Johnson's probation revoked.
