Carnett Repeats as WVIAC Track Athlete of the Week

For the fourth consecutive week, Concord University women's track and field standout Shawnee Carnett has been named the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Thursday.

Carnett won the 800-meter run at the D-II Team Challenge in Geneva, Ohio last weekend with a season-best time of 2:12.17. The mark, which easily met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard, is the fastest time in the WVIAC this season and fourth best in the nation.

In addition to her 800-meter exploits, Carnett anchored the Mountain Lions' 4x400-meter relay team that posted a school-record time of 3:56.11, narrowly missing the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.

As a team, the Mountain Lions remained in third place in the WVIAC power rankings behind Wheeling Jesuit and Seton Hill.

Concord is off this weekend, but will return to competition at the Virginia Tech Challenge.
