SOPHIA -

New details were released on just what happened to bring about a deadly mine accident in Raleigh County on Thursday, Feb. 7.

59 News crews were on scene to capture the somber moments as miner workers lowered the American flag to pay their respects to a fallen miner.  The Mine Safety and Health Administration confirmed a Edward Finney was killed at around 9 p.m.

The release states Finney was pushing a scoop bucket onto a hoist. The hoist moved unexpectedly and picked up the scoop. Finney was trapped under the scoop and crushed to death.

Our crews have learned this is not the first time the Affinity mine has been in the spotlight. 59 News dug a little deeper into the history of the mine and found out in March 2012, MSHA cited the Affinity mine.Workers were caught giving illegal, advance warning that inspectors were onsite.  That happened just under a year ago.

Now mine workers are left mourning one of their own.
