West Virginia State Police are investigating an incident that happened just before 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8 in the Fairdale area of Raleigh County.
According to Sgt. Michael Baylous, State Police responded to a 911 call stating that a 2-year-old had fallen out the window of a house trailer. By the time officers arrived on the scene, the toddler had been carried to a neighbors house by James Green, the 23-year-old step-father.
Neighbors told police Green was so distraught after the incident, he talked about committing suicide. Troopers found Mr. Green at his house, but they were unable to get any response out of him. Investigators said the Green may have overdosed on drugs.
The child was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center. Green was taken to Raleigh General Hospital.
The child died at around 2:30 a.m., according to a release from the West Virginia State Police. A preliminary investigation has revealed that the child's injuries were related to a "Shaken Baby" incident, rather than a fall from a window.
The Raleigh County Prosecutor's Office will determine whether an arrest will be made.
