A release from the Beckley Police Department on Tuesday, Feb. 12 announced the hiring of an evidence custodian to fill the slot left vacant by Gabriella Brown.

The position has been filled by retired Beckley Police Captain, Randy Boyd.  Boyd has more than 30 years of law enforcement experience and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

According to the release, the evidence custodian is primarily responsible for cataloging and maintaining the evidence submitted by Beckley Police officers.  The department has also integrated an evidence barcoding system to help streamline the process of receiving , storing and releasing property and evidence by using computerized records.

A new incident command vehicle was also bought.  That will allow investigators to turn over evidence directly to the custodian on the scene.

The evidence custodian position was left vacant in 2012 after the former evidence technician, Gabriella Brown, was arrested for on felony charges.
