Wyoming County murder suspect picked up in Mingo County

Wyoming County Sheriff, Randall Aliff, said the man they believe murdered a woman from the Brenton area of Wyoming County was picked up in Mingo County in the early morning hours of Wednesday, Feb. 13.

John Douglas New, 20, faces charges of murder, grand larceny and daytime burglary in Wyoming County.  He also faces several charges in Mingo County, where he was arrested at around 12 a.m.

Sheriff Aliff tell 59News that a tip to the sheriff's department from a resident of Gilbert lead them to the suspect.

Right now, New is being held in the Southwestern Regional Jail.  Sheriff Aliff said he will be brought to Wyoming County to be arraigned, then transferred to the Southern Regional Jail.


Wyoming County Sheriff's Deputies have announced that there has been an arrest in a murder case that began at around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12.

The name of the suspect has not been released as of 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, but deputies said he was picked up in Mingo County.

A murder was reported in Wyoming County.

Dispatchers confirmed that investigators, state police troopers, and sheriff's deputies were on the scene after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.  As of 9 p.m., crews were still on scene, according to dispatchers.

59 News is told the murder happened at a home in Brenton, off Route 97 and Shannon Mill Creek.

Deputies say they are searching for a missing GMC truck.  There is no word if that truck is connected to the suspect or the victim.

Deputies were not saying anything about a suspect Tuesday night. 

They also say the victim's name will not be released, until all family members are notified.

Sheriff Randall Aliff says more information will be released Wednesday morning.  Aliff says deputies are in the beginning stages of the investigation and that they are still collecting evidence.
