HILLTOP -
Fayette County sheriff's deputies arrested two men in connection with a home invasion robbery in the Hilltop area.
The incident happened Jan. 29.
Sheriff Steve Kessler tells 59News, his office received a call of a home invasion robbery in the Prudence Road area. When deputies responded they found Daniel Sullivan, 58, of Hilltop, was the victim of a home invasion and had been brutally beaten. Deputies learned two masked men forced their way into the home, assaulted Sullivan by beating him repeatedly with a metal heater. The men attempted to steal drugs from the home. Sullivan was taken to Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill and then Charleston Area Medical Center for treatment. He is still recovering.
Deputies recently arrested two men in connection to this case. Steven R. Sullivan, 33, of Oak Hill and Jeremy S. Bailey, 33, of Glen Jean, are charged with felony robbery, burglary, and assault during the commission of a felony. They were taken into custody. Sullivan is the step-son of the victim.
"We received a great deal of assistance from the public throughout this investigation," said Sheriff Kessler. "We received numerous tips and lead thru the CrimeStoppers hot line, through the Crime Tips section of the Sheriff's Office web site, and through our agency Facebook page. These tips and leads enabled us to target our investigative activities and ultimately led to the positive identification of these two suspects and their eventual arrest."
Sheriff Kessler said," We've investigated several reports of home invasion robberies throughout Fayette County in the past several months. Several of these reports have been found to be drug related - drug dealers robbing other drug dealers. This crime was not in that category. This was an innocent victim who was allegedly targeted by his step-son, who knew that he had prescription drugs in his residence. This incident is not believe to be related to the other incidents of reported home invasion robberies throughout the area."
