Reds' Baker in good health as new season starts

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) -

Reds manager Dusty Baker acknowledges he wasn't feeling back to normal when he returned to the dugout for last season's playoffs.

Baker was in a hospital when the Reds clinched the NL Central title, receiving treatment for an irregular heartbeat and a mini-stroke. He was back in time for the playoffs, which ended with a first-round loss to San Francisco.

Baker has kept his weight down and paid closer attention to his diet and rest in the offseason. The 63-year-old manager is feeling good as the new season opens.

Baker got a two-year contract extension after last season, giving him a chance to try for a third division title with Cincinnati. The Reds return their team virtually intact.
