FAYETTE COUNTY -

A fire in Fayette County overnight nearly burned a house to the ground. Now authorities are trying to figure out if it was deliberately set.

"No, it's not surprising at all for down here. Not at all," a neighbor said.

She tells 59 News it is very common to see a house burn down in her community. Other neighbors said a husband and wife had both lived in the home. But they said after the husband died in a car wreck, she moved in with family and began renting out her home to two individuals.

According to neighbors, yesterday the woman who owns the house became so upset with her tenants that she came in and threw out their mattress and television set.

"Was it a scary sight to see? No because that one burned down while I've lived here too. I'm used to it, it's Minden, everything burns down here," said neighbor Sierra Treadway.

Although the blaze didn't frighten her, she said it was quite the sight to see at 4:30 a.m.

"Did it wake you up? Yeah it did because it was so bright. The whole holler was lit up, it was pretty crazy. I walked up there and there was flames coming out of the attic,"Treadway said.

She said she worries for her own house because of the amount of house fires in her neighborhood.

"I know the fire right there, it burnt the whole siding off the house beside it. It makes me worry because I don't want something to happen to this house," she added.

The Fayette County Sheriffs Department Fire Investigator is heading the investigation at this time. If need be, the Fire Marshall will also get involved.
