PHOTOS: MSHA issues lessons learned from 2013 mine accidents

The Mine Safety and Health Administration has been quick to follow up on fatal accidents across the United States in the past 25 days.  They issued so called "Fatalgrams" for each incident which include a list of best practices aimed to prevent future fatalities.

Here is a list of the accidents:

  • Powered Haulage - Underground - West Virginia
    Consolidation Coal Company - Loveridge #22
  • Machinery - Underground - Illinois
    Knight Hawk Coal LLC - Prairie Eagle South Underground Mine
  • Hoisting - Underground - West Virginia
    Affinity Coal Company, LLC - Affinity Mine
  • Exploding Vessels Under Pressure - Facility - West Virginia
    Midland Trail Energy, LLC - Five Mile Prep Plt & Refuse Impoundment
  • Machinery – New York – Common Shale
    Northeast Solite Corp – Mount Marion Pit and Mill

Each release shows a picture inside the mines where the accidents happen.  The "fatalgrams" are issued before the investigation reports are available.
