The Tazewell County Sheriff's Office is asking for patience from members of the Pounding Mill community as they work to on an open and active investigation in the area.
A search that involves deputies and state police was brought to the attention of the community on Friday, Feb. 22. Officials said that the search of the area could take months, but since the investigation is open and active, details are not being released at this time.

The Tazewell County Sheriff's Office issued a release on Friday, Feb. 22 about an active investigation in the Pounding Mill area of the county.
The details on what law enforcement officers are looking for have not been released, but there have been a number of calls about the search. The reason for the limited information is because the investigation is open and active at the time.
Investigators can say that the search is for evidence and is focused on a very specific area that includes a body of water. Troopers with the Virginia State Police Dive Team are assisting the deputies.
