CHARLESTON (AP) -
The West Virginia Senate has proposed a bill that would give businesses a $900 tax credit for each economically disadvantaged veteran that they hire. Businesses would receive a larger tax credit for hiring disabled veterans.
The bill introduced Wednesday already has huge bipartisan support. It is co-sponsored by 32 of the 34 senators, including the Senate president, majority leader and minority leader.
Under current law, businesses are eligible for tax credits only for hiring veterans of the Vietnam and Korean Wars.
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, there are more than 170,000 veterans living in West Virginia and more than 29,000 disabled veterans.
