A teen who was found dead at a home in Flat Top on Sunday, March 3 lead to an investigation by Mercer County Sheriff's Deputies.
Law enforcement officers were called to the home at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday where Ghent Volunteer firefighters were performing CPR on the girl. She was taken to Raleigh General Hospital by members of the Princeton Rescure Squad. A release from the Mercer County Sheriff's Office reads that she was declared dead at the hospital shortly after her arrival.
An initial release on the death indicated that the 13-year-old girl, who has not been officially identified, committed suicide. Deputies initially said that bullying may have played a role in her death. However, they now tell 59News that their investigation has not revealed any indications that bullying was a factor in her decision to take her own life.
Grief counselors were on hand at the girl's school both Monday and Tuesday to help the students. An autopsy was performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Monday, March 4.
