
The West Virginia State Police arrested two parents in Logan County on Wednesday. Timothy and Bessie Marcum are accused in the death of their one-month-old baby.
The boy died Tuesday morning, according to State Police, at the family's home in Chapmanville.
Both parents are charged with child neglect resulting in death according to State Police.
Investigators said that Timothy Marcum fell asleep with the infant on his lap. When he woke up, he discovered the baby had been smothered and was dead.
State Police are looking into whether drugs may have played a role in the incident.
Bessie Marcum was asleep in another room of the house according to investigators.
There were two other children in the home. They've been taken into custody by Child Protective Services.
The Marcum's were taken to the South Western Regional Jail where they will await arraignments.
