Increased security at Greenbrier East after gun threats

The Greenbrier County Board of Education took a string of threats on social media seriously and acted to protect student.  The threats indicated that a student was bringing a weapon to school at Greenbrier East on Friday, March 8 and security was increased at the high school.

According to the associate superintendent, everything is operating as normal at the school.  They had extra officers from all departments on scene and they will have extra security there all day as well.

Administrators said they were aware of the threat.  In fact, they said that they have been aware of the possible danger for two days and have planned accordingly.

A student was removed from school who is believed to have made the threat and they tell 59News that the matter is being dealt with very seriously. 

There are three deputies on campus for the rest of the day.
