BECKLEY -

A homeless man who downloaded pornography over free Wi-Fi connections learned his fate in a Raleigh County courtroom on Friday, March 8.

John Benedict Vevrecka, 47, pleaded guilty to five counts of possessing child pornography.  His hearing was in front of Circuit Judge Robert Burnside at 9:30 a.m.

Vavrecka was arrested in Sept. 17, 2012 after two USB drives were turned in to Beckley Police.  A search of those drives revealed that they were loaded with pornography, including pictures that had children in them.  Investigators were able to link the drives to Vavrecka.  They said that Vavrecka would take his laptop to area businesses with free Wi-Fi and download pictures while his computer recharged.

There was no pause in the wheels of justice where this case was concerned.  Judge Burnside gave him a sentence of two years in prison for each count.  He also ordered that those sentences be served consecutively, which means one after each other.  Prosecutors told 59News that he will be held in the penitentiary.
