PRINCETON -

A new Gallup poll ranking the happiest states shows people in the mountain state may be a little down.

For the fourth year, west Virginia held up its position as the unhappiest state.

The sight and sound of paradise it may be easy to see why folks in the aloha state ranked as the most happy state in a recent Gallup Poll.

The coal fields of west Virginia are a bit different.  So how did we measure up?

The mountain state ranked #50 out of all 50 states.

"I don't think that's right! everyone I met has been happy," Susan Blare said.

But not all were not that shocked!

"I think West Virginia is a really crappy state, this is the worst place I have ever lived. There are no jobs, people are just not happy here," Crystal Wooldridge of Princeton said.

"It is pretty boring here," Nikki Beck of Lashmeet said.

But many others said they love the mountain state and could not believe how low the state was ranked.

"I've lived here my early childhood,I left for 22 year than came back home," Elizabeth Niswander of Hinton said.

The pole ranked states based on quality of life, life expectancy and healthy among other categories.  West Virginia ranked dead last in 3 categories including, life evaluation, emotional health and physical health. But for some that means nothing, home is where the hilltops are.

"I think I am very fortunate to live here I was born here and my family was too and I don't want to go anywhere else," Wanda Lilly of Jumping Branch said.
