Power restored to homes and businesses in southern West Virginia

UPDATE: As of 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, Appalachian Power is reporting that all homes and businesses in southern West Virginia have their power restored.

The cause of the massive outages in the southwestern counties was attributed to a down distribution line.

 


UPDATE:  Appalachian Power is now reporting that electricity has been restored to all of their customers in Raleigh County.  While there are still slightly more than 2,300 homes in businesses in Wyoming County without power, that is half of what it was around noon.

 

 


Thousands of West Virginians spent their Saturday morning in the dark after a main power distribution line went down in southern West Virginia.

 

Appalachian Power reported around 2,500 homes and businesses were without electricity in Raleigh County.  In Wyoming  County it was more than 5,100 just before noon.  Emergency Services in McDowell County told 59News that almost all to that county had no power.

59News contacted Appalachian Power, and they said that they expected to have the lights back on around noon on Saturday.
