LEWISBURG -
A Blueglass concert held today raised money for the family who died in a Lewisburg car crash.
On February 18th a 64 year old woman and her 3 year old great-granddaughter died in a one vehicle accident that caught on fire.
Friends and family gathered in the Lewisburg Armory to celebrate their lives.
"We are just out here to spread the music, hopefully uplift somebody's life," said friend John Lively.
The immediate family of Ann Whitt and Shaelynn Morris told 59 News how they want them to be remembered by.
"Just like this. Family. Friends. Laughter," Laura Whitt said.
The family told 59 News music has always been a part of their lives and now that's what brings them together and helps them cope with their tragedy.
The Whitt family is steeped in the tradition of the Blueglass music. We are friends of theirs, we play music with them, we're neighbors, we live in a small farming community together.
"Music has been passed down in our families from us, our children, our grand-babies. We all enjoy it. It soothes our soul," said Charlene Whitt.
Ann Whitt's grandson said a concert is a perfect way to honor his family.
"My mother and my uncles, they grew up with it, and it has been handed down and that's another reason why I think it'd be a good thing to do. It's what my grand mother would have wanted," said grandson Grant Bennett.
Ann Whitt's son expresses his gratitude to the number of people who commemorated his mother by coming out to the concert.
"We've always had Bluegrass in our family. My dad and all his brothers played. We've always been a Bluegrass family. Our friends are great, it's good to see them come out and have a good time," said son Paul Whitt.
If you'd like to donate to their family, make checks payable to the Whitt-Morris Benefit Fund or the First National Bank in Ronceverte.
