It has been 20 years since what was called "The Storm of the Century" plowed across the entire eastern United States, leaving as much as three feet of snow in parts of Appalachia and crippling electrical grids and travel.

According to historic records tabulated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, this storm marked the first known time that all airports on the eastern seaboard were closed from the same storm. Millions of people were without power in multiple states and hundreds of roof collapses were reported.

As many as 44 inches of snow fell at Snowshoe, WV, with 30 inches reported in Beckley and Ashland, KY had 24 inches of snow on March 14 alone. Temperatures dropped to 5 degrees below zero in Elkins which was a record low for that day.

While the storm closed roads and caused major headaches for emergency responders and people in the region, some people truly enjoyed the spectacle.
