MEADOW BRIDGE -

Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies were lead on a chase after attempting a routine traffic stop.

Deputies were out looking for problems in the Town of Meadow Bridge on Monday, March 11 when they tried to pull over a man driving a blue Oldsmobile Cutlass 88 that was not registered properly.  The driver, Eugene Victor Jones, 42, of Meadow Bridge took off and lead deputies on a chase down Backus Mountain Road.  Investigators said Jones turned onto Goddard Cemetery Road, pulled over and ran into the woods.  Deputies ran after Jones for about a quarter of a mile before they were able to catch up with him.

Jones was arrested on a charge of Felony Fleeing in a Vehicle with Reckless Disregard for Public Safety.  He was taken to the Southern Regional Jail.

The case is still under investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.
