BRISTOL, Va. -
Leaders at Alpha Natural Resources announced on Monday, March 11 that 10 of
the companies West Virginia
operations from underground mines to preparation plants were honored for
outstanding safety achievements in 2012.
According to the release from Alpha, nine operations received the
Mountaineer Guardian safety award. Here is a list of the mines that were
honored:
Underground Operations:
Brooks Run Mining Company, LLC
Cucumber Mine
Saylor B Mine
White Buck Coal Company
Grassy Creek No. 1 Mine
Hominy Creek Mine
Mammoth Coal Company
Slabcamp Mine
Preparation Plant:
Litwar Processing Company, LLC
Litwar Processing Plant
Surface Operations:
Highland Mining Company
Reylas Surface Mine (Highland Mine)
White Flame Energy, Inc.
Superior Surface Mine
Simmons Fork Mining, Inc.
Ewing Fork No. 1 Mine (Pax Surface Mine)
Another Alpha mine, the Republic Energy Surface Mine was awarded the Bart B.
lay, Jr. Milestones of Safety Award as the most outstanding surface mine in West
Virginia.
The awards are sponsored by the West Virginia Office of Miners' Health,
Safety and Training and the West Virginia Coal Association. The purpose
of the awards is to promote safety in West Virginia's
coal mines They are presented to selected mining operations that meet
strict safety criteria. It recognizes those organizations that manage a fatality-free
operations, superior internal safety programs, cooperative teaming with
authorities and minimal safety violations.
"We congratulate our people and operation for their accomplishments in
2012," said ANR President, Paul Vining. "We are proud of our miners
and the work they do every day. Theses awards underline how important safety
is to Alpha and our culture."
The awards were presented to the operation at the 40th annual West Virginia
Mining symposium on March 7 in Charleston.
