An armed robbery that took place in the early hours of Thursday, March 14 has Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies looking for a suspect.
The initial call came in at around 3:49 a.m. Emergency dispatchers were informed that an armed robbery had just happened at the Go-Mart on U.S. Route 60 in Alloy, W.Va. and that the suspect ran off toward Gauley Bridge.
The cashier told investigators a white man came up to the window asked for two cartons of Marlboro cigarettes and two packs of Sonoma cigarettes. The clerk said after he rang up the sale, the suspect pulled out a gun and told the clerk to give him money, four more cartons of Marlboro cigarettes and three White Owl Blunts grape-flavored cigars. Deputies said that the clerk did as the suspected asked. Customers at this store are not allowed inside after midnight, and all sales are handled through a sliding cash drawer in the side of the building.
Investigators are searching for a white man who is between 5-feet 8-inches and 5-feet 10-inches tall. The suspect is slim and unshaven with dark-colored hair. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt. The gun a dark-colored semi-automatic pistol, with green fibre-optic sights. The suspect may have gotten away with more than $200.00 in cash.
There is evidence that the suspect probably jumped into vehicle parked near the Alloy Employees Federal Credit Union near the entrance to the Elkem Metals plant. Investigators have not been able to determined if there was a second person involved in the crime.
Fayette County Sheriff's deputies are looking into a possible armed robbery. Dispatchers with emergency services called investigators to the Go Mart gas station Alloy at around 4 a.m. on Thursday, March 14.
