The federal grand jury met in Beckley during the week of March 11.  According to U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin two men were indicted on Thursday, March 14 for illegally selling prescription drugs and owning firearms.

Jody Lowell Sowder, 36, of Scarbro was indicted on two counts for the alleged sale of oxycodone on Sept. 25, 2012 near Oak Hill.  The indictment also alleges Sowder had a semi-automatic pistol on him during a drug trafficking crime.

Bobby White, 66, of Gordon in Boone County allegedly sold Xanax on July 5, 2010 near Danville, W.Va.   The six count indictment alleges that White sold hydrocodone and oxycodone in August 2012 and that White had a .32 caliber pistol during  a drug trafficking crime on Feb. 12, 2013.

The news release from U.S. Attorney Goodwin said Sowder faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine for one count and five years to life in prison on the second count if he is convicted.  White faces up to life in prison and a $1 million fine on each drug charge and a $250,000 fine on the firearm charge if convicted.

The investigations were conducted by the Oak Hill Police Department, the U.S. 119 Drug Task Force and the West Virginia State Police.
