Rachel Williams and members of the 4x200-meter relay team broke school
records to lead the Concord University women's track and field team this
weekend at the Shamrock Invitational at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium on
the campus of Coastal Carolina University.
Williams completed the 10,000-meter run in a WVIAC Championship
qualifying time of 39:23.53 to place sixth and break Chelsea Callaway's
previous CU record of 40:42.14 that was set in 2010.
She was joined in the distance event by fellow WVIAC Championship
qualifiers Cheyenne Nicely and Diane Rumrill. The duo placed
back-to-back in 11th and 12th place at 43:22.28 and 44:01.02,
respectively.
The Mountain Lions' 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Casey Ord,
Lydia Powell, Donnie Kirk and Demi Kirk, posted a new Concord record
time of 1:45.53 to place 19th.
In individual competition, Ord met the conference championship
qualifying standard of 13.60 seconds in the 100-meter dash when she
turned in a time of 13.10 seconds to finish 68th in the 154-women field.
Micalyn Miller came in 16th place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at
12:23.37 to lead a trio of Mountain Lion runners that qualified for the
WVIAC Championships in the event. Miller was joined by Tabatha Whited
(12:36.80) and Bethany Carroll (13:05.91).
