MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -

Jeff Fertig reached the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the high jump and Robby Peters broke a 10-year old record in the 10,000-meter run to lead the Concord University men's track and field team at the Shamrock Invitational at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.

Fertig cleared 2.05 meters to become the only West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference athlete to clear over 2.0 meters twice in 2012-13.

Peters clocked a time of 31.20.30, which placed him second in a field stacked with talent. The time bested Takuya Abe's previous Mountain Lion record time of 31:52.58 set in 2002 and is the top mark in the WVIAC this season.

Peters was one of five Concord runners to beat the WVIAC Championship 10,000-meter qualifying mark of 37:00.00. Sterling Snyder placed seventh in a time of 33:23.76 followed by Jake Munsey (35:14.59) and Wes McKinney (35:39.48).

Craig Pritt also punched his ticket to the WVIAC Championships in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:13.38. Pritt placed 45th out of 95 competitors.

Concord returns to action March 22-23 at the High Point Invitational.
