Jerrod Groves Named WVIAC Player of the Week

Concord University baseball sophomore second baseman Jerrod Groves has been named the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Groves led Concord to a perfect 5-0 week with two wins against Wheeling Jesuit and three more vs. Glenville State.

For the week, Groves hit .571 (8-for-14) with eight runs scored and nine RBI. The Covington, Va. native also stole two bases and hit two doubles while producing an on-base percentage of .647 and slugging .714. He reached base in all five games and had a pair of three-hit contests against Glenville State and Wheeling Jesuit.

Groves has started all 20 of Concord's games this season and is currently hitting .328 (22-for-67) with a .438 on-base percentage, 20 runs scored, 16 RBI, five doubles and two stolen bases. He is doing some of his best hitting this season with runners in scoring position (.417 / 10-for-24).

Concord (11-10, 5-2) will look to move push its overall record above the .500 mark and keep its five-game winning streak intact when it hosts Shepherd in a WVIAC doubleheader 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Anderson Field.
