Hundreds of people from Connecticut to Florida reported seeing a brilliant streak of light shoot across the sky Friday night.

There were some reports that it crashed to the ground near the Maryland-Delaware state line, but those reports are still unconfirmed.

The fireball was spotted about 8 p.m. by people driving, walking their dogs or just happening to glance out the window. Those who saw it say it glowed green, bright, fast, close and "scary."

According to the American Meteor Society, fireballs are very bright meteors, about as bright as Venus in the morning and evening skies.
