BLUEFIELD -

Game after game, Bluefield's boys basketball team took care of its opponent. Today, the city of Bluefield took care of the Beavers with a state championship celebration.

"I think this is just a wonderful example of how not only do we have great sportsmanship and great team effort on the basketball court. But I think it attests to the spirit of the whole city," Bluefield Mayor Linda Whalen said.

Mayor Whalen and the city have now made March 26th Bluefield Beavers day.

"This is a great lift for the community. It's a great lift for our school. It's a great lift for the city of Bluefield. We're just so proud of them right now," said Buster Large, Bluefield's head coach.

Governor Tomblin's office also recognized the team, whose season concluded with a 20-point win in the state championship over Fairmont Senior. Something that the players won't soon forget.

"It's good to see that our city is behind us. We've been walking in the clouds for a week and it's crazy," forward D.J. Edwards said.

"It hasn't hit me yet. It's been a crazy feeling for the last 10 days. I'm just letting it sink in and enjoy it. It's great, the whole community supported us the whole season and we'd just like to thank them for that," guard Anthony Eades said.
