Community garden to open in Ronceverte

Posted: Updated:

The old city pool in Ronceverte will soon be open to the public... but not for swimming.

Ronceverte Development Corporation is teaming up with Downstream Strategies to turn the old pool area into a community garden.

There will be plots for private residents to lease to grow their own fruits and vegetables and also community spots to use for educational purposes.

And local food banks will benefit from the garden.

Main Street Manager Lisa Circle said, "We're also going to include lots, it's called plant a row, which is where local individuals will come in and they can grow with the intention of donating it to local food banks."

No word yet on when construction will begin on the garden.
