WARRENTON, Va. (AP) -

Court records show that man serving a life term in West Virginia for kidnapping and sexual assault confessed to a slaying in Virginia that had remained unsolved for three decades.

FauquierNow.com. (http://bit.ly/ZpSCtK) reports that the documents quote an investigator who states that 65-year-old Ronald R. Cloud admitting killing Brad Baker on New Year's Eve 1980. It was the same day Cloud's stepfather was fired by Baker at a 2,000-acre farm in Virginia's horse country.

Cloud made a brief appearance in Fauquier (faw-KEER') County General District Court this week for the assignment of an attorney and to schedule a preliminary hearing on the charges, which include first-degree murder.

Cloud's attorney did not immediately respond to a telephone message left Friday by The Associated Press.
