WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS -

Monte Ortel, formerly Assistant Tournament Director for The Greenbrier Classic, has been named Tournament Director for the annual PGA TOUR FedExCup Event, taking place July 1-7 at The Greenbrier, the classic American resort.

The Greenbrier Classic, which will be played for the fourth consecutive year on The Greenbrier's Old White TPC championship golf course, has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious "Best in Class" award in 2011 from the PGA TOUR.  Ortel has been with The Greenbrier Classic since its inception in 2010, after previous PGA TOUR stints as Operations Manager with the 84 LUMBER Classic in Farmington, PA, from 2004, and as Tournament Operations Manager with the Turning Stone Resort Championship in Verona, NY, from 2007.  Ortel has been involved with 12 professional golf events over the course of his extensive career.

Ortel earned his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from Washington Adventist University, followed by a Master's Degree in Sport Management from Slippery Rock University.  He now resides in Lewisburg, WV, with his wife, Amber, and two daughters, aged one and three.

"Monte's hard work over the past four years has been an important part of the growth and continued success of The Greenbrier Classic," says Jim Justice, chairman and owner of The Greenbrier.  "We have exciting plans for further development of the tournament as a leader in the community and on the PGA TOUR, and Monte will continue to play a pivotal role in our success."
