Governor Earl Ray Tomblin has ordered all State flags displayed at State facilities be lowered to half-staff this weekend in honor of Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum.
Flags will be lowered beginning at dawn on Saturday and remain at half-staff until dusk on Sunday.
Visitations for Sheriff Crum will be held from 4-9 p.m. on Saturday with his funeral set for 1 p.m. on Sunday. Both will be held at Mingo Central High School.
Sheriff Crum was shot and killed on April 3. According to police, Crum was eating lunch when a car pulled up next to his vehicle. Police believe the suspect Tennis Melvin Maynard, 37, shot Crum four times before leading police on a short chase.
The chase ended when Maynard exited the vehicle with a weapon and was shot multiple times by police. Maynard is expected to live and will face charges for attempted murder of a police officer.
