NEW: WV Turnpike back open after accident near Mahan exit

UPDATE:

The West Virginia Department of Transportation 511 system reports that all lanes of the West Virginia Turnpike have been reopened.  Lanes were closed for hours after an accident involving several vehicles happened on the Fayette - Kanawha County line near the Mahan exit.

 


NEW:

I-77 North at the Mahan Exit is now open according to the West Virginia Department of Transportation. Officials said one south lane will remain closed due to road damage.


NEW:

The West Virginia Division Of Highways has reopened one of two south lanes on Interstate 77. A multi-vehicle crash closed both south lanes at the Mahan exit earlier Monday night.

Traffic backed up for miles along the Kanawha-Fayette County line. Drivers are still encouraged to avoid the area if possible.

One of the tractor-trailers lost its load of aluminum rolls, according to the West Virginia Department of Transportation. Work continues to clean up the crash site.

Fayette County dispatchers have confirmed that an accident involving two tractor-trailers, one van, and three cars has shut down I-77 South. This is in the Mahan area.

Dispatchers said the accident happened at around 7:20 p.m. Both South lanes were closed according to the West Virginia Division of Highways.

There's no word on any injuries. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area if possible.
