Wanted sex offender arrested in Beckley

West Virginia State Police arrest a sex offender for a laundry list of charges.

Additional charges have been filed against Avery Joe Lail, Jr., 48, of Beckley. The wanted sex offeneder is currently being held in the Southern Regional Jail.

Lail was arrested Wednesday night by Beckley Police for aggravated DUI, DUI second offense, and driving while revoke for DUI.

Troopers say Lail gave false information to the officers about who he was, however,  police were able to identify him.  It was then discovered Lail was a wanted sex offender from South Carolina.

Lail has been living and working in Raleigh County since 2012.

Troopers tell 59News out of state sex offenders have to register with State police if they're working, going to school, own or rent property or stay in the state for more than 15 straight days.

According to a press release,  Lail was last registered as a sex offender in Pickens County, S.C. due to a 1988 conviction of Kidnapping of an 18 year old man through Mecklenburg County, N.C.  He must register for life due to the violent crime. South Carolina authorities maintained active warrants from 2009, for failing to register as a sex offender for Lail when he left their jurisdiction without notification; however, South Carolina refused to extradite.

Cpl. R.A. Daniel arrested Lail on 4 felony counts of failing to register his information as required. He was arraigned before Raleigh County Magistrate Greg Tanner and was unable to meet the $100,000 bond.  He remains in custody at the Southern Regional Jail.
