Local runners to raise money for Boston victims

Running clubs in Charleston and Huntington are hosting a Boston Marathon Victims Benefit Run Sunday in Hurricane to raise money for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.

The Tallman Track Club and the Huntington Road Runners announced a three mile run at the Hurricane Wave Pool Park for 3 p.m. Sunday April 21.  Organizers say this is not a timed run, but rather a way to unify and show support while accepting donations that will go to the Boston Center for Independent Living.  Walkers, joggers and people of all levels of experience are welcome to participate.  There is no official entry fee but organizers say those who wish to participate can make donations on site that will be placed into a fund that will be sent to the Boston facility.

"As runners, we all know what Boston is.  As runners we all belong to an extended family.  Let's gather together and show our support for the victims of this evil attack and show what we do best, help our family when our family is hurting.  Let's recover together," said W.K. Munsey of the Charleston Tallman Track Club.

"As a running community, we need to stick together.  In a way, we are one big family...always there to support one another...as we saw on Monday," said Ricky Campbell of the Huntington Road Runners Club.
