Diane Lewis, president and CEO of Action Facilities Management in Morgantown, recently was named the Small Business Administration's Small Business Person of the Year for West Virginia.

Lewis was named the SBA's Minority Small Business Champion in 2010.

Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., issued his congratulations in a prepared statement. She attended the 2012 State of the Union address as Rockefeller's guest.

"Diane is such a shining example of what it means to build a company from the ground up and see tremendous success, providing jobs and helping boost the local economy," Rockefeller said in a news release. "Her company's growth in the last 12 years proves that hard work and innovative thinking pay off in big ways."

Action Facilities Management provides government and commercial contract services, specializing in site management services such as security, maintenance, project management, consulting, training and staffing. Its clients include the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Department of Homeland Security, Federal Protective Service and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Lewis founded AFM in 2001 in the basement of her home, according to information from Rockefeller's office, and her first employee was her 17-year-old son.

"She has grown her company to employ more than 200 West Virginians, and I have no doubt we will continue seeing Action Facilities Management thrive under her vision and leadership," Rockefeller said.

AFM has locations in nine other states. It is certified as a Small Disadvantaged Business and a Female Minority-Owned Business by the SBA.
