MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University fans voted and selected "Mountain Strong" as the winner of the 2013 fan shirt competition. And, it wasn't even that close.

For two weeks, Mountaineer fans had the opportunity to vote for their favorite shirt designs – front and back – and chose "Mountain Strong" as the front and the Mountaineer mascot with "Flying WV" logo as the back.

In total, 21,351 votes were cast for their favorite design online at http://fanshirt.wvu.edu or via text message. "Mountain Strong" had 79 percent of the vote.

"Mountain Strong" is inspired by the geography of the state of West Virginia, and represents the nature of the land and the people who live within the state, according to a news release from WVU.

The winning shirt design was announced at the Gold-Blue Spring Game on Saturday.

The shirts will be available to purchase in June at http://shopWVU.com and local WVU/Nike retailers. The shirts will be available in men's, women's and children's short and long-sleeve.

The WVU fan shirt is the official shirt for the 2013-14 school year. Last year's official fan shirt was the only shirt available for purchase with the Mountaineers' inaugural Big 12 Conference logo. More than 15,000 fans voted for the design in 2011-12, the last year the university held a vote for the shirt, which featured the saying "True Gold and Blue."
