The votes are in, banning pit bulls in one Mercer County city.

Bluefield city council members cast their votes in favor of the ban Tuesday night.  The three to zero vote approved the new ordinance.

The ban only applies to new pit bulls.  Mayor Linda Whalen says people who already have registered pit bulls will be able to keep their dogs.  And if you have a pit bull that isn't registered, you have 10 days to do so with the Bluefield Police Department without facing penalties or having to get rid of it.
