Gregory Aloia, president of Concord University, has announced his resignation effective at the end of this academic year.

Aloia, who has been president of the Athens-based university since 2008, has accepted a position as president of the College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick, Ga. He will begin his duties there July 1.

"Concord is a wonderful university," Aloia said in a news release. "It's been an honor and a privilege to serve as president of this great institution with its outstanding faculty, wonderful students and phenomenally dedicated staff.

"While I will miss the wonderful folks at Concord, I am looking forward to new and exciting opportunities at the College of Coastal Georgia."

Under Aloia's tenure as president, Concord University has become a state leader in serving student veterans and has been recognized as the top veteran-friendly university in the country. Aloia also has implemented an international initiative to increase the number of international students on campus, as well as the school's participation in educational opportunities outside the United States.

On campus, Aloia has focused on increasing opportunities for professional development, increasing the number of faculty and enhancing the experience for students at Concord. Other highlights of Aloia's administration include renovations to the physical plant and beautification projects on campus.

The Concord University Board of Governors will oversee the selection of Aloia's replacement.
